E1000 File Transfer

Transferring files with the E1000 is very easy. There are several ways to get files on and off the phone.

Bluetooth

This is is a great method when you're not at your own computer or you've misplaced your USB cable. You can transfer files to and from a computer as long as you're close to it, and you can also use Bluetooth to zing photos to some photo printing kiosks.

Things you need

For Bluetooth transfers you'll need:

  • Your E1000
  • a Bluetooth-capable receiver

If you're sending files to or from your PC you can get USB Bluetooth dongles quite cheaply. Check ebay if your local shops are out of stock.

How to send

To send a file from your E1000, enter the multimedia browser and navigate to any audio or video file. Press the menu button (the middle top button) and select MOVE or COPY. It will offer the choice of any previously used Bluetooth device, and the option to add a new device. Select the device you wish to send to, and press the select button. The other device may need to be set up to receive the file.

Note that selecting MOVE will erase the file from your E1000 once it's received by the other machine. COPY will create a duplicate.

How to receive

Once your E1000 has been paired with another device you can select the future connection method. For your own PC you'll probably have it set to connect again automatically. If so, sendinga file from another device will connect immediately without you having to do anything on your E1000. An alert will sound and you'll be offered the option of accepting or refusing the new file.

The USB Cable

USB is much faster than Bluetooth, but requires the use of the custom software included with the E1000. First install the software according to the directions, and then use one of the included methods for transferring files. Rather than reproduce the manual, here's what you'll find with the Motorola software.

The Browser

This is much like Windows Explorer. One window shows the phone's contents, the other opens a window showing your PCs contents. Simply drag n drop files back and forth. You can navigate into any non-system folder on your phone, and between the TransFlash (mini SD) memory and the phone's memory.

Files transferred this way are not checked for compatibility or suitability.

The Image Studio

The Image Studio allows you to select files on your computer and, using some rudimentary tools, edit them for use on your E1000.

It converts every image to a JPG, so detailed or computer-generated GIF or PNG files will not look as good on your E1000 if you transfer them with this tool.

The Melody Studio

The Melody Studio offers some basic editing and adjustment tools, and allows you to browse your PC for files to send to the E1000.

Files transferred with the Melody Studio will all be converted on the fly.

  • WAV files become 8bit, 8kHz (64kb/s) mono files.
  • MP3 files become 32kb/s mono files

Email

You can email any file to yourself that's under the limit you define with the email settings.

You can send any size email from the phone. Note that standard email encoding (base64) creates larger files for transfer, so a 160kB JPG image becomes a 225kB email, and with most providers you are paying by the Byte.
